Elizabethan
structure and shape
In the
Elizabethan era there were two main shapes to the hair. A round padded look and
then the heart shape. These were the bases of many hair designs, switching it
up by adding texture such as crimping and curling.
The key
difference to creating these different shapes is the placement of the padding
and the amount of paddings that are used.
To create
the rounded shape use one long padding in the centre of the head.
To create
the heart shape, use two smaller paddings and place them further on the sides
of the head.
There are
two types of padding you can use. The first is a cut up tight stuffed with
either tissue or cotton wool. This gives a higher look to the hair and a more
structured padding. The second is rats. These are fake hair which you can roll
up to create a padding to the hair. These are a lot easier to apply to the hair
but don’t give as much of a lift to the hair.
